Distance Between Tadoba National Park Safari Gates

Here we write detail about the different safari gates of Tadoba Andhari National Park and also distance between them. Tadoba Tiger is reserve located in Indian state of Maharashtra is crowned as jewel of Vidarbha. Before knowing Tadoba well and planning trip here may be stressful as there are 12 entry gates and all are located far from each other.

One of the common confusion we received from a wildlife traveler that tourists book multiple jeep safari as they assume that it is good to try all safari gates for a different session just to enhance the chances of tiger sightings. If you are working it out on a google map, it may sees good and well but in actual it won’t work in similar way.

History of Tadoba

The region of Tadoba national park, including the vast expanse of forests near the Chimur hills, was earlier under the rule of Gond kings. Raja KhandkhyaBallal Shah is considered the founder of the Chandrapur district. Among the various tiger reserves, Tadoba attracts many tourists as it boasts of having the maximum number of tigers. The area of Tadoba is home to the Gond tribe. According to legends prevalent in the region, Taru, the village chief, died in a mythological encounter involving a tiger. Since then, people have begun to worship him. A shrine was built in his honor below a large tree on the banks of the Tadoba Lake. Every year, during the Hindu month of Paush (December-January), a fair is organized in the region where the tribal people worship at the temple.

In 1935, hunting was banned in the region. Two decades later, nearly 116 sq. km forest area was declared Tadoba national park. The adjacent forest contributed to the development of the Andhari wildlife sanctuary in 1986. The wildlife sanctuary was named after the Andhari river that flows across the region. In 1995, the two were merged to form the tiger reserve known today as the Tadoba-Andhari national park.

Tadoba is one of the 47 tiger reserves of India and the oldest national park in Maharashtra. As per the 2010 census, there are around 43 tigers in this reserve, making tiger sighting possibility high. The vegetation of the forest is Southern tropical dry deciduous type with Teak being the prominent species. Most of the forest has a hilly terrain that offers shelter to the wildlife of the region. One can move through dense forest, marshlands, rugged cliffs, smooth meadows, valleys, and lakes that make a beautiful home for the wild region's wild animals.

The lake acts as a buffer between the forest area of the reserve and the farmland portion of the park that leads up to the Irai water basin. The lake serves as the perennial source of water for the park and neighboring areas. If you are fond of the beauty of landscape, birds, and wildlife, then this is the ideal place to visit.

Moharli – The Moharli village, located 6.9 km from the Tadoba region, forms the entry gate to the famed Moharli zone. It is one of the oldest entrances to the wildlife park. You can avail private jeeps for excursions and jungle safari from here.
